The voice of our children is an amazing and precious gift. In this new category, “Say What?!” I’ll share some of the wisdom, comedy, and honesty that come from the mouths of kids everyday. Their words have the ability to make you cry, roll over in laughter, or pause for a moment to think. Whatever your reaction, I hope you’ll enjoy this new category. Here is the inaugural post in this category from the lips of my five-year-old daughter last week:
We had a couple of those ridiculously over-sized, never-deflate mylar balloons leftover from Mother’s Day. For days I pleaded with the kids to be careful because “I don’t want those things tangled up in the ceiling fans.”
Inevitably, Peyton releases one of the balloons into the ceiling fan and lets out a shriek. (sigh) I tell her to wait until her dad gets home because I don’t have the energy to scale the 8-foot ladder to get it. When my husband gets home, he decides he doesn’t have the energy either. The conversation goes something like this:
“Ah, I’ll get it later Peyton. I don’t feel like getting the ladder.”
“But Da-a-a-a-a-d!! You have to get it down!”
“Why?”
“Because if you don’t, they’ll put it in the newspaper and everyone will know what I did!”
I have no idea where that came from. Her balloon incident didn’t make the newspaper, but it did make this blog (wonder if she’ll care). Oh yea, and the mylar balloon is still stuck in the ceiling fan…it’s becoming a new decorating accent with each day it stays twittering in our fan.
