Job Resources Help Moms Work Part-time

Working moms are changing how “traditional” is defined when it comes to work. According to a 10-year study spanning from 1997-2007 by Pew Research Center, traditional full-time work outside of the home is no longer an attractive option for many moms with children under 18. The overwhelming preference by mothers (80%) is to work part-time. This may be because women want to maintain their work identity and play an active role in their children’s lives; part-time employment offers the best of both worlds for these moms.

Thankfully, there are resources available to place mothers with professional experience in part-time jobs:

  1. Ten til Two is a staffing service that specializes in placing college-educated professionals into long-term, part-time jobs. Other similar services include MomCorps and NeedleStack Jobs.
  2. Working Mother’s Best Companies for Part-Timers list includes employers such as IBM, McGraw-Hill, Ernst & Young, KPMG, and Bristol-Myers Squibb that all hire people, full- and part-time, in a number of locations nationwide.
