I have a few (okay, maybe more like 10-12) great passions in life – books and education are two of them.
I love books. It’s a crazy love that forces me to spend an extraordinary amount of time at my local book retailer or library. I arrive home with stacks of books for myself and my children.
I’m also passionate about childhood education. As a mother of three children – 8, 6 and 4 – I know the importance of a well-resourced school, from financial resources to human resources. I lend a hand to support my children’s school as much as I can – offering to buy resources or volunteer in the classroom – but there is a limit to how much I can give. That’s why I’m such a fan of the Box Tops for Education (BTFE) program, which lets me give back in a different way.
So imagine my delight when the folks at Box Tops for Education (BTFE) sent me a gift card to use in the Barnes & Noble section of their online marketplace. Books + BTFE = Yipeeeeee!!!
I decided to use the gift card to purchase books for my children’s classrooms. That way the teachers will receive resources for their class and the school will receive a couple bucks to add to their coffers. It’s a win-win.
The neat thing about the BTFE program is that giving back to a school doesn’t cost you more than what you’d already spend at the grocery store or at online retailers. Giving back is as simple as clipping the pink tabs off select products and sending them to a participating school, or starting your online shopping at the BTFE Marketplace page so that a percentage of your purchase goes to the school(s) you select. Easy and win-win!

Thank you for reminding us of this fantastic way to earn money for our children’s classrooms! Our last school was a huge advocate of Box Tops for Education and I think because of that, they created easy to follow instructions for parents (with pictures!). The school raised a lot of money from this program. My girl’s school here in KY doesn’t seem to value this “free money” and in light of that – parents don’t bother. I really think it’s all in the approach and importance the school puts on the program that will determine the success.

I wish more parents would use the Box Tops program. They offer so many opportunities for schools to earn free money and it’s really quite effortless. Thanks for your comment Renae. Love the “girl with a plan and a vehicle to get there…” – nice!
