This Sunday, September 13, 2009 is National Grandparents Day – now celebrating 30 years!

Celebrated on the first Sunday after Labor Day each year, National Grandparents Day was proclaimed in 1973 in West Virginia by Governor Arch Moore after a three-year campaign led by Marian Lucille Herndon McQuade. President Jimmy Carter signed the proclamation in 1979, which finally recognized National Grandparents Day as a U.S. holiday. The purpose of the day is to honor grandparents, to give grandparents an opportunity to show for their children’s children and to help children become aware of the strength, information and guidance older people can offer.

As a mother of three children, and having just returned from a week-long vacation where my children spent quality time with their grandparents, I am especially excited to announce The Integrated Mother’s support of this day.
