Mother of two – 1 and 5

I’m a working mom who…
…has worked from home with my children for the last 5 years as a Business Analyst and have recently changed my occupation to sell Real Estate.
This is what I did today…
- 6:30 a.m. – Got myself up and dressed
- 7:30 a.m. – Got the girls up, dressed and ready for school (lunches, breakfast, etc.)
- 9:30 a.m. – In the office to answer floor calls, make calls and brainstorm on ways to generate new leads
- 12:00 p.m. – Previewed homes in the area of town I work, calling on potential clients.
- 2:30 p.m. – Picked the girls up from school, got them home and gave them a snack. Talked about their day while folding laundry (started somewhere in one of the above steps), straightened up the house and followed up on emails.
- 5:30 p.m. – Started the dinner, bath and prep for bed routine.
- 7:30 p.m. – Light TV watching with the family while finishing up on paperwork and research
- 8:30 p.m. – Kids to bed and me back on the computer, working on Newsletter formats for lead generation and emails.
- 11:00 p.m. – Time to go to sleep.
My biggest career challenge since becoming a mom and how I overcame it…
The absolute most difficult thing for me being a mom and working (especially from home) is that I have a tough time stopping something once I start it. So, when I’m knee deep in an intense document that requires deep concentration and one of my girls needs something, I catch myself saying “hang on” or “in just a minute” and I HATE that I do that. My kids should come first. I don’t know that I’ve completely overcome it so much as I’ve tried to make a concentrated effort to realize when those words are about to come out of my mouth and find a good stopping point to give them my attention.
My Top 3 Things I Want Most
- A full day at the spa;
- Time (more than 30 minutes) to sit down with a good book; and
- Not having an agenda for a full 24 hours.
