I’m a working mom who…
…is self-employed. After over a decade of working in the non-profit sector and my last position in government I decided to make a career change. Although I have done non-profit consulting in the past after having my son I realized the need to have flexibility in my schedule. I am now a consultant for a national early childhood literacy program and I have started a product based business – Cutie Booty Cakes -diapers shaped like cakes. In addition I maintain my blog of the same name on a daily basis.

This is what I did today…

  • 6:00 am – wake-up, review blog post, visit and comment on blogs.
  • 7:30 am – wake-up my son get him dressed and ready for daycare.
  • 8:00 am – drop my son off at daycare and start the work day.
  • 9:00 am – work on consultancy and also check in with blog periodically during the day.
  • 1:00 pm – Stop for lunch (in my dreams I usually don’t do this)
  • 2:00 pm – Back to work and checking with blog.
  • 3:00 pm – Take cakes that have been ordered to post office for shipping.
  • 3:15 pm – Pick up son at daycare
  • 3:45 pm – Spend playtime with my son.
  • 5:30 pm – Prepare dinner
  • 6:00 pm – Feed my son
  • 6:30 pm- Give bath and prepare for bed
  • 7:30 pm – Put my son to sleep
  • 8:30 pm – Back to work, new blog posts, and construction of new cakes.
  • 1:00 am – Lights out for me.

My biggest career challenge since becoming a mom and how I overcame it…

My biggest challenge has been balance work and life. Finding the happy medium has been difficult because working for myself I am always pushing to do better. I find that scheduling the play time and days that are entirely focused on my son has helped with maintaining a balance.

You both looks so cute. So adorable! Balancing life is definitely tough. Finding time for family and self is even harder. But we have to keep going.

Happy Halloween!
